Hero skill availability
Hey there, first post here, so sorry if I put this in the wrong place, but this has been driving me nuts for the past two days.
I can't find Masochism for my necro heroes anywhere. I've been combing the wiki, and none of the hero skill trainers have it listed, and the entry for the skill itself only lists personal character trainers. I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I would really like to know how to get this skill, and any others that might be like it. I've only been playing the game for about a week, and a lot of the resources for it leave out frustratingly small-but-important pieces of information sometimes. |

Unless you purchased the Skill Unlock packs, your heroes will only have access to skills that you have acquired for your own character(s). Once unlocked/learned, all the heroes on all your characters will have access to it. You will need to have a character with necromancer as primary or secondary profession go to one of the skill trainers who offers it and buy it.

If you've only been playing for a week, it's quite likely that you haven't even reached Eye of the North yet, which is the only part of Guild Wars where you can acquire the skill.
If you have reached there, just buy it from Micah Ferguson in the Eye itself.

Hero skill trainers are basicly the same as personal skill trainers. getting a skill on your character mean you have it unlocked for all heroes on your account. The only benefit that a hero skill trainer offers is that they offer a limited amount of skills cheaper in exchange for an earned hero skill point.
To get masochism you need to do the following. a: make sure your primairy or secondary profession is necro (at a certain point available in every campaign called "ascension" you can change your secondairy profession, see the note below). b: make sure you have access (bought) eye of the north on your account, get to level 10 and a port town and take the quest to get to the eye of the north expansion and the outpost at the same name (short run with 2-3 fights after arrival in the expansion). c: have a skill point and a maximum of 1 platinum to buy the skill form the (personal) skill trainer. Buying it is enough to unlock it for heroes. note: you can get ascended in any campaign, but in prophecy's this is done rather late in the game, in the factions campaign it is done early one. (to compare in prophecy's it takes 18 missions, in factions only 4 missions). So if you e.g. started in prophecy's and have access to factions, you can travel to factions after getting to the port town lion's arch (and being level 10). Cause you would skip the first two missions in factions (wich are tutorial missions for players who started there) you need to do two more missions. The 3 missions/quests that grand ascension are: prophecy's: Augury rock (like said the 18th mission in the campaign, but if you travel there from another campaign you skip the first 7 missions) Factions: Nahpui Quarter (the 4 th mission into the campaign, but if travel there from another campaign you skip the first two missions) Nightfall: The Quest "Hunted!" (it's the first quest after consolate docks mission, though this is the 4th mission in the campaign the ascension here only counts if you started in Nightfall, otherwise the npc to change your profession will not be available for you). Hope this helped solve you confusion a bit. otherwise just ask |

Thanks a bunch, everyone. That answered my question completely. For reference, I do have all the campaigns, currently sitting at level 17 and I've dabbled in all the settings so far. That's why things were getting frustrating, cause I'd seen the skill elsewhere, but had no clue how to access it.
Guess I'm off to ascend and to find the profession changer! |
